Jay Jarabek drops into Now’s the Time Podcast for Episode 2. Here’s the scoop on the guy who helped The Trio wade through the murky waters of high school!
Now’s the Time Podcast welcomes to the show Jay Jarabek…a renaissance man for our times who played a pivotal role in Tara, Jeremy and Angela’s formative years in Fort Plain, New York.
Jay was born and raised in Johnstown, New York, a town steeped in history that’s nestled in the foothills of the charming Adirondacks. Like the historic town he hails from, Jay revolutionized his life after he graduated from the Greater Johnstown School District in 1982 and headed to SUNY Potsdam State.
Jay’s work at Potsdam State led to a Bachelor’s Degree in Science Education and a Master’s Degree in Education. These two important steps laid the foundation for Jay’s career.
Jay taught for the Fort Plain Central School district for thirty-three years. Throughout his tenure, he wore many hats along the way as he taught the following classes: Biology, AP Biology, and Chemistry. Outside of the classroom he climbed the ladder of success when he served as the Science Coordinator, at-large member of various committees, and the organizer of “Moving Up” day. As if these accolades were not enough, it is important to note that Jay coached volleyball and track and field for fifteen years. Wow!
Jay married his wife, Patti (another teacher at Fort Plain) in 1991 and they have two children. One son, building his career in architecture and the other is keen to pursue a career as an Environmental Engineer.
Jay retired in 2023 and started a second career as an Instructional Coach for HFM BOCES. In this role, Jay works with test data and develops curriculum and resources for NYS Science Learning Standards.
