Captivity Narrative

Regan Caruthers. Who is she? What does she do? Why?

ree

Among the many labels that could be attributed to Regan, “healer” and “spiritual teacher” are the most applicable in the eyes of Now’s The Time.

Healer of self and through the vulnerable yet courageous sharing of her biography, Regan captivates her audience and helps others to remember that regardless of the circumstances one is born into, we have choice. We get to choose.

After listening to her speak, it becomes evident that Regan embodies her mindset that “between any sensory input and your response is time and space to CHOOSE.”

Like most self-helpers and healers, the author of Tragic Magic calls attention to the need for discipline and practice. At the same time, she pays exceptional homage to the innate abilities found within, showing readers that if harnessed through awareness, the power that pulses through us all (Qi), can be rightfully used. Her work suggests that full resolution can be found for what ails you, bringing to the forefront, the option of a self led and defined ability to overcome and heal. This is a lasting philosophy that Ms. Caruthers learned in early childhood years, temporarily lost touch with and then ultimately returned to fully!

Regan spent her young adult professional life working her way through corporate America in Silicon Valley. Over time, the demands of corporate ascension coupled with a tumultuous first marriage/extra-marital affair and surviving her growing years with a “mentally ill mother," Regan’s physical health deteriorated (eventually revived) while in the midst of Covid and writing her memoir, "Tragic Magic."

In her book, Regan weaves together pieces of her mother’s past and integrates them with her very own accumulated wisdoms and stories of current times.  She compels readers to forgive (and accept) her mother as she does; always letting divine love lead.

Impressively, the author doesn’t skirt or skip the telling of the hardships experienced. Instead, she uses the darknesses to reveal the light which she inherited from her birth mother.  While telling hard truths, Regan does not deny her mother the dignity one deserves despite their mental and emotional states as evidenced in the excerpt below:

“By bearing witness to you, by loving you, by being so deeply loved AND neglected and brutalized by you, I learned the absolute necessity and power of self-regulation.  I learned this because if I was going to survive you, I needed to know how to separate myself, my response, and my sense of self from the massive emotional swings that ran through you.  It was as if you were connected to the universe itself and were experiencing the greatest light and the greatest darkness within you, as reflections of it.”

Per her narrative, “Tragic Magic" is Regan's raw and inspiring account of unraveling a life built for survival, confronting her deepest wounds and returning to the teachings of her youth. This story of healing and transformation reveals how, even in our darkest times, we can rediscover the magic within.

Regan currently lives in Missouri where she owns, walks and heals in her ten acre woods. In addition, she leads her community in self discovery, awareness, and in action, reveals the power of divine love and demontratetes conscious thought through her yoga instruction at Aset Yoga Center.

As the founder of Aset Yoga Center, Regan conducts her classes at no charge for her community - a gift AND a clear indication that she is wholeheartedly dedicated to helping people make space for themselves to transform.

A note from Tara:

“What I appreciate most about Regan (aside from the downright bizarre synchronicities that she, her mother, me and mine all share…including that three out of the four of us women grew up as “poor girls in Central New York”) is her unwavering ability to tell a story of her mother’s struggles without dehumanizing her. Instead, she exemplifies forgiveness, compassion and unconditional love…something every mother, even the most “sound,” could only hope for from her children. This is something I have strived a lifetime to achieve and am still diligently, and yes, to be honest, PAINSTAKINGLY trying to achieve.

More in magnitude, she exposes the hard reality that not all who are pegged as “mentally ill” are ill at all; instead, suggesting that there’s “simply” an integration issue between the mind-body-heart and spirit…further eluding that the SOUL knows and will do what it takes, regardless of earthly expectations, to bring us all home…not just to our mothers but to ourselves and each other. As we are, after all, a society in dyer need of less unresolved mother wounds and more wholeness.”
