Captivity Narrative

Jennie Hughes. Who is she? What does she do? Why?

Jennie Hughes is the Production and Project Manager for NTT. This is a role she naturally fell into given her magical logistical skillset! If you enjoy reading it, she has likely edited it. If you enjoy listening to it, she has likely made it available for you. If you can click it and be instantly linked to the next connection or resource; that was Jennie working to provide efficiency and properly conduct the information, all from behind the scenes.

What’s more? She does all this in her spare time! By day, Ms. Hughes is a mother to three wonderful teenage boys. She has an immense appreciation for having the opportunity of guiding her sons through life and watching them develop into the great young men that they are!

In her professional endeavors, Jennie is a special education teacher who works with students and their families to prepare them for the transntion from the school setting to the adult world. She is currently working at a theraputic day school for students with Autism. There, she coordinates job training and community based learning experiences for students, connects families to supports and resources for adult programming and provides general guidance as the school continues to develop its Transntion Program. Her favorite part of her job is a small business that her students run where they make and sell jewelry.

As Jennie would put it, she involves herself in this line of work because, “It feeds my soul.” She admits, “Although the work can be physically and emotionally challenging, seeing a student succeed, enjoy their accomplishments, learn a skill they've been working really hard to learn and connect with you on a personal level, is priceless!” Jennie has been known to shed many happy tears as she feels blessed in having the opportunity to witness such integral milestones of students.

She too, is a tattooed woman with her story creatively deposited on her skin. Ms. Hughes has found that over time, her act of receiving markings in this artistic way has skillfully documented various parts of her life. She considers the process of being inked as, “Quite cathartic.”  When asked what they each mean, she tells a tale of how some remind her of fond memories, some were taken on to identify important pieces of who she is and some to honor those she loves.”

There is no doubt that her story will continue to be told both in words and ink!
